How to Handle Holiday Stress

By Carroll Pellegrinelli, About.com

Well, I don't know about you but I'm almost at the stage of having to breathe into a bag. You know...all those holiday pressures about to cause a major explosion. So this is the reason, and definite need, for this feature: to calm you, and me, down. This is the time to enjoy, not to suffer with self-produced problems.

So, ENJOY the season and I'll try to, too!

  1. RELAX:
    • Take a deep, really deep, breathe in through your nose.
    • Hold it... 1... 2... 3...
    • Then let is sl-o-w-ly out through your mouth.
    • Do this a couple of times without becoming dizzy.
    • Make a cup of Chamomile Chai Tea to go with a nice Almond Cookie.
    • Put you feet up read a great book or watch a wonderful movie.
  2. WATCH YOUR DIET:
I know you're saying: Yea, right!. Well, just a tiny bit of common sense will help you. Balance all those goodies with lots of water and roughage like salads and go for lower calorie desserts.
  3. STICK WITH THE FAMILIAR:
This is not the time of year to impress everyone with all of the new dessert recipes you found. People actually expect your dessert standards like Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. Or at the very least, if you just have to try something new, try a simple, yet very tasty recipe like Pumpkin Dump Cake.
  4. SHARE THE WORK AND THE FUN:
Want to impress everyone with all those different cookies you baked? DON'T! Why not have (or even better, talk someone else into hosting) a Cookie Exchange. You get lots of different types of cookies by only baking one kind. And best of all you get to have fun with your friends.
  5. ENJOY:
Take the time to spend with your friends and family. Take the time to do something very special for yourself. You deserve it!!
