My Kids Adore Apple Pies

Do You Serve the Traditional Pies at Thanksgiving?

My kids adore apple pie, so every time I make pies, I always make an apple pie. I've started enhancing my traditional pumpkin pie. In addition to the usual nutmeg, cloves and ginger, I now add some ground cardamon. I also make sure to use fresh ginger, rather than the powdered stuff.

What Other Sweet Treats Do You Serve on Thankgiving?

I now own an ice cream maker, so I make my own vanilla ice cream. We usually have dinner with friends. My friend's husband loves to cook, so he usually makes some chocolate truffles. But even though I love chocolate, chocolate desserts don't really appeal to me after a big Thanksgiving dinner. I usually just stick with the pies. Oh, I forgot to mention that we always whip our own cream for the pies.

What I'd do differently

  • I am still looking for a recipe for this delicious pie that was served at a dinner I went to many years ago. It was an apple pie, but it had a delicious topping. It was kind of like an apple crisp, but not as heavy as the traditional apple crisp topper. It was very light, sweet and slightly crunchy. I'd love to add this pie my line-up.
  • Since I've discovered how easy it is to make pie crusts with a food processor, I am going to make a berry pie this year, as well as the traditional apple and not-so-traditional pumpkin pies.

Having dinner at Susan's homes sounds delightful. I know I'm ready for some homemade pie and freshly whipped cream. Thanks Susan for sharing!
