Hot Buttered Rum


This Hot Buttered Rum recipe is so rich it's almost a dessert.

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes


  • 1 pound butter, softened
  • 1 pound box dark brown sugar
  • 1 pound box powdered sugar
  • 1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened
  • rum*
  • boiling water


Cream butter and sugars. Add ice cream, but mix gently. Put into freezer container. Freeze overnight.

To serve: In a mug, put 2 to 3 tablespoons of mixture. Add 1 jigger of rum and enough boiling water to fill mug. Stir.

*For a non-alcoholic version, substitute 1 teaspoon rum extract or flavoring.
