If you like chocolate and you like pretzels, making chocolate-covered pretzels seems like a logical choice for a great treat. Shake it up and put white chocolate on top of those pretzels and you have something entirely new. This sweet-and-salty snack recipe for white chocolate-covered pretzels is perfect for your next party—or just to enjoy as a snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 (10- to 12-ounce) bag white chocolate chips

  • 1 pound salted pretzels

Steps to Make It

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Unfold a piece of newspaper and place it on a table or counter. Top the newspaper with parchment or wax paper.

  3. Place white chocolate in a microwavable container. Microwave the mixture on high for 1 minute. Stir and, if needed, continue to cook for 15 seconds at a time until the chips are melted. You might also want to put the chocolate in a bowl over a pot of near-boiling water (double-boiler style) being careful not to let the water touch the bottom of the bowl.

  4. Working quickly, use kitchen tongs to dip one pretzel at a time into the melted chocolate. Cover the pretzels completely with chocolate, or cover only half of the pretzel for a distinctive look (that also lets people know what's under the chocolate and is ideal for party presentations).

  5. Place the dipped pretzels on the prepared work surface. The chocolate will cool and dry onto the pretzels quickly. Dip as many pretzels as you have chocolate. Allow all of the chocolate-covered pretzels to dry (this typically takes less than an hour) before storing in a cool, dry place in an airtight covered container with parchment paper or wax paper between each layer of pretzels.

Tip

  • You might want to put the freshly made white chocolate-covered pretzels into the refrigerator to firm up the chocolate so it is cool or room temperature when it is time to serve.

Recipe Variations

  • There are several ways to customize the pretzels or dress them up. Perhaps you are serving them at a Christmas party. In that case, you could sprinkle some green and red M&Ms on top of the chocolate while it is still wet, or dip them in green and red sprinkles, or mash up some candy canes and sprinkle them on top. You could do the same for Valentine's Day and use red or red-and-white candies and/or sprinkles.
  • Another option is to use pretzel rods and dip either the entire pretzel in melted chocolate or just half of it. Again, you can add color or flair to the pretzels depending on the occasion by sprinkling mashed-up candies or sprinkles on top. Another topping for the pretzels would be brown chocolate, which would look neat drizzled over the white and create a nice color contrast.
