Hush Puppies a.k.a. Hushpuppies

You can make these without the onions, but I prefer them with it.

These Hush Puppies were fried in my Emerilware Fryer by T-fal.

Hush Puppies are perfect with fried fish and/or seafood like shrimp.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 04 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1-1/2 cups corn meal
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • oil for fryer
Preparation:
Heat oil in fryer or pan to 375 degrees F.

Combine dry ingredients. Beat milk and egg together. Add to dry ingredients. Stir until smooth. Stir in onion.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls into oil. Cook for 1 minute or so and carefully turn over with slotted spoon. Cook until golden brown about 3 to 4 minutes total.

Drain on papertowels. Serve hot plain or with honey.
