Each fall our local Greek churches hold festivals. One of the best things about the festivals is the food. There are always lots of Greek pastries for sale. Kourambiethes is one of our favorite Greek cookies. These cookies are perfect with a cup of coffee or tea. Of course, they're good by themselves, too!

Ingredients

Steps to Make It

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and brandy.

  3. Gradually only add enough flour to make a soft dough. Chill.

  4. Shape dough into crescents or 1 1/2 inch balls. (If using cloves, place one in each cookie before baking.)

  5. Place on ungreased sheets. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. They won't be brown.

  6. Cool for 4 to 5 minutes and then sift powdered sugar over them.

Tip

  • For Easter, you can put them in pastel cupcake papers.

Recipe Variation

  • You can substitute orange juice for brandy. If there is no brandy around, rye whiskey will do.
