Boisson Deluxe De Soi Non-Alcoholic Apéritif Kit

Boisson Non-Alcoholic Deluxe De Soi Kit

Boisson

This gorgeous gift set features three non-alcoholic apéritifs from De Soi, one of our favorite non-alcoholic drink brands: Golden Hour tastes of yuzu, chamomile, lemongrass, and pear; fruity Champignon Dreams has notes of apricot, strawberry, black currant, grapefruit, and jasmine tea; and Purple Lune tastes of tart cherries, dates, peaches, blackberries, currants, vanilla, and a hint of cocoa. On top of that, it throws in a pair of insulated stemless glasses and a cute silk scarf you can put in your hair or on the table.

De Soi sent the trio of drinks to our writer Allison Wignall to sample. "I'm a wine lover, so I had my doubts about how much I'd like these non-alcoholic apéritifs," she said. "I was so pleasantly surprised. Not only do they taste amazing, but I was also stunned by the depth and complexity of the flavors. The Golden Hour was my absolute favorite, for sure. It's nice to have a non-alcoholic yet sophisticated drink for friends and family that don't (or can't) drink alcohol when they come over to visit."

Includes: 750-mL bottles De Soi Golden Hour, Champignon Dreams, and Purple Lune non-alcoholic apéritifs; 2 stemless glasses; silk scarf

What to Look for in a Wine Gift Basket

Wine Type

Wine gift baskets can include all different kinds (and amounts) of actual wine. If you know the recipient's tastes, you should definitely choose wines they'll like, but chances are you won't be sure. In that case, you can match your choice to the occasion and time of year. A sparkling wine is great for a celebratory basket, but maybe less so if it's a condolence gift. In summertime, a light rosé is refreshing, while a hearty red could be a better choice in the winter.

Different baskets also contain different amounts of wine: The ones featured above contain anywhere from just a single bottle to a full dozen. If you're looking for variety without a huge cost, you can also look for retailers that offer small bottles or sample vials rather than the full-sized 750-milliliter kind.

Food Items

The tasty treats in wine gift baskets can run the gamut from cheese and charcuterie to cakes and caramels, and most include an assortment of sweet and savory items. The most important consideration is the recipient's dietary needs—you obviously don't want to send a basket of salami and Brie to a vegan. But it's also a good idea to consider how many people the basket is intended for. Some packages include a large spread that can fill an entire buffet, while others are intended to be shared by maybe a pair. Most product listings give a full list of all the items and their package sizes, so this is fairly easy to figure out.

Shipping Options

If a gift basket includes only shelf-stable items like nuts, dried fruit, and packaged snacks, you'll probably have multiple choices for shipping speed. Overnight and 2- or 3-day shipping will be more expensive, but if you've waited until the last minute, you may not have any other option. With perishable items like cheeses and meats, the basket might need to go overnight with ice packs to ensure nothing spoils.

You should also consider the shipping as part of the overall cost of a basket. Especially with overnight, shipping can cost almost as much as the items themselves. Some retailers include shipping in the initial price of the basket, while others add it on during checkout, so this can sometimes get complicated.

FAQs

Can wine be shipped to all 50 states?

That's a very complicated question. Every state has its own set of laws about which retailers can ship wine, how, and to where. It's possible to ship wine to nearly all 50 states, but every retailer has its own shipping policies you'll have to check individually. (For purposes of buying wine online, your location doesn't really matter; the recipient's address determines the rules.)

It's worth noting that the United States Postal Service will not handle wine (or any other alcoholic drinks). All retailers that ship alcohol use UPS, FedEx, or another private delivery service. This means that some gift baskets might ship their wine separately from their other contents.

Can wine be delivered everywhere?

As with wine shipping, wine delivery has different regulations for different states—and often for different counties and cities within each state. One thing that's true everywhere in the US is that the person receiving the package needs to be at least 21 years old, with a valid ID. In many areas where it's illegal to ship wine directly to a consumer, it may be possible to ship to a local liquor store, where the recipient can pick it up in person. Some locations also require that the person who ordered the wine be present at delivery, which makes giving a wine gift basket more complicated. Unfortunately there are no hard and fast rules, so you'll have to check each retailer's policies carefully.
