Deep Fried Twinkies

Each fall I can wait for fair and carnival time. Every year the food vendors add some unusual, yet amazing, edible treats. Deep Fried Twinkies have been around for a while, but I had my first one at a local fair. These days you can find all kinds of deep-fried treats. Luckily, you don't have to go to a fair to have them. You can make your own with this recipe.

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 2 minutes

Total Time: 27 minutes


  • 4 twinkies*
  • 1 cup flour**
  • 1 tablespoon malt vinegar**
  • 1 teaspoon salt**
  • 1-1/2 cup water**
  • powdered sugar


Freeze Twinkies for 1 hour. Completely combine other ingredients. Dip Twinkies in batter and fry in hot oil in deep fryer. Only cook until golden brown about 1 or 1-1/2 minutes. Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Notes in the Margin:
* - You don't have to limit yourself to just Twinkies. Deep Fried Oreos are very popular, too. Just use this recipe. Of course, feel free to branch out into deep fried: Snickers, Almond Joys, HoHos and so on. It's up to your imagination. Just be sure your chosen item is very cold and fried quickly.
** - You may also substitute funnel cake batter or a pancake mix, made as directed on box.
