Have you been searching for a cooking series on DVD that's worth watching over and over? Well, get ready, "...because ... Two Fat Ladies are itchin', to get into your kitchen." That's right, Two Fat Ladies, the hilarious BBC (also shown on Food Network) cooking show's entire 24 episodes are available from Acorn Media.
In One Word - Addicting
If I had to describe the Two Fat Ladies cooking series in one word, that word would be addicting. My husband and I stayed home for our last vacation. Even when we'd go out for the day, we couldn't wait to get back home. We looked forward to see what Jennifer and Clarissa were up to next. It was like eating potato chips, one wouldn't be enough. Well, we couldn't watch just one episode of Two Fat Ladies. We came close to watching the entire series of 24 episodes in one week. How Could You Go Wrong?
I don't know of any other cooking series that combines laughter and singing with adventurous travel and effortless cooking skills. Each episode is filled with scrumptious dishes that anyone can make. You're not just entertained with their effortless cooking skills, but with their stories and Jennifer's Broadway-like singing. To add icing-on-the-cake, each episode is filmed in a different location. With Jennifer driving the motorcycle and Clarissa in the sidecar, they visit some of the most picturesque villages in England and Scotland. They even visit Jamaica at Christmas, but not on the motorbike.
Tasty Tidbits from the Series
Some of their favorite dessert ingredients are double cream (a cream with 48 percent fat), butter and chocolate. When making some of the regular dishes, it would be wise to have plenty of hot peppers, hot pepper sauce, anchovies and lots more butter on hand. Some of the desserts made were Chocolate Creme Brulee, Stuffed Peaches, Rhubarb Barmbrack, Apple Pandowdy (recipe included with the series) and an almond cream-filled Galette (puff pastry). The Regrets Are Few
Although, most of the dishes are made in an effortless fashion and can be made without an actual written recipe, the DVD series only comes with eight of them. Luckily, the Two Fat Ladies' cookbooks can be found online for reasonable prices. The other huge regret, is that Jennifer passed away in 1999. After 24 episodes, I wanted to see more of them, but Two Fat Ladies are no more. On the good side, they will live forever on my DVDs.
