The slow cooker makes these impressive-looking peanut clusters super easy to make. The ingredients are combined in the slow cooker and cooked for about 2 hours—all you have to do is stir a few times and then drop the finished candies onto the wax paper or parchment paper.

Milk chocolate (or German's sweet chocolate), white almond bark or melts, and semisweet chocolate combine to make a smooth and delicious chocolate flavor. If you prefer, replace the milk chocolate with light chocolate candy melts or similar light chocolate. However, don't skip the white almond bark, as it's that particular ingredient that makes the clusters set up properly. If you find that the chocolate doesn't solidify, it's probably because the ratio of chocolate to white almond bark isn't correct. The recipe makes about six dozen candies, and it can be scaled up or down quite easily—which means it's an ideal holiday gift for all your neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances.

Ingredients

Steps to Make It

  1. Combine the almond bark or white chocolate with the milk chocolate and chocolate chips in the slow cooker. Add the peanuts. Cover and cook on high for 15 minutes. Do not stir.

  2. Turn the crock pot setting to low and stir every 15 minutes for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours longer or until all of the chocolate is thoroughly melted. Stir to blend.

  3. Drop by teaspoon or small cookie scoop onto waxed paper and let them cool until set (about 1 1/2 to 2 hours).

  4. Store the cooled and completely set chocolate peanut clusters in a cool place (or in the refrigerator) in a tightly covered container separated by sheets of waxed paper. The candy freezes well.

Tips

  • For an extra-special look for gift-giving, drop the melted peanut cluster mixture into mini foil cupcake liners or specialty candy cups. Package them in a fancy box or shallow container decorated with a bow.
  • Instead of peanuts, make the clusters with pecan and walnut halves, or a combination. For an extra special treat, make them with cashews or hazelnuts.
  • Use half unsalted and half salted peanuts for a sweet and salty flavor.
  • For a festive look, melt green and red candy melts in separate containers. Drizzle both colors lightly over the peanut clusters.
  • Sprinkle the candy with finely crushed peppermint sticks or flaky sea salt before they set.
  • If you prefer white chocolate, use about 48 ounces of vanilla almond bark or white chocolate candy melts instead of the combination of three kinds of chocolate.

Recipe Variations

  • Fruit and Nut Clusters: Add 1 cup of raisins, dried cranberries, or chopped dried cherries to the candy about 15 minutes before it's ready.
  • Chocolate Caramel Peanut Clusters: Add 11 ounces of caramel bits to the slow cooker with the other ingredients.
