Total Time: 3 hours, 15 minutes

Yield: 6 pounds

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds fancy mixed nuts (or other premium salted nut)
  • 1 pound dark or bittersweet chocolate
  • 48 ounces bark, white or chocolate flavored

Preparation:

Place all ingredients in crockpot. Cook on low for 3 hours**. Don't touch. Turn pot off and let sit for 20 minutes. Cover a large surface (about 4 square feet) with waxed or parchment paper. Stir mixture completely. Drop by teaspoons full (I used iced tea teaspoons) onto paper. Let harden and store in airtight containers.

Notes in the Margin:

*** This recipe seems to work much better in one of the older type crockpots (similar to the one in the photo) that only have 3 settings - high, low and off. If making this in one of the newer-type crockpots that have a timer and a warm setting, you will need to look at your mixture after an one hour. I've made this recipe many, many times in two different types of crockpots and never had a problem. Unfortunately, I did have a friend whose crockpot may have cooked hotter than the low setting. Her chocolate dried-out. So when you peek, if possible try not to lift the lid, the chocolate should look slightly melted and not dry. If it looks okay, continue cooking. It may only take an hour to two hours to be done in the newer-type crockpot.

Simple and Delicious Recipe, Member denegordon

I tried this for the first time and left it alone for the three hours. Came back, stirred it up and scooped it out. It was delicious and will now become a Christmas tradition. Looks like it takes a lot to make, but was very simple. If your crock pot heats too high, recommend you keep it on the warm rather than low temp. My crock pot is oblong, not round - that may have made a difference. Do need to stir it up good when done though. Loved it!
