Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 cups fresh sliced peaches*
- 3 tablespoons red cinnamon candies
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- pastry for 2-crust pie
- 2 tablespoons butter
- milk
- sugar for sprinkling
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Combine sugar, flour, nutmeg, salt, and candies. Add to peaches; sprinkle on lemon juice and almond extract. Pour into pastry-lined 9" pie pan. Dot with butter. Put on top crust, flute edges and cut steam vents. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
*To substitute canned for fresh peaches: Use 2 - 29 ounce cans of peach slices, reserving 1/2 syrup. Add the syrup with the lemon juice and extract.
