Ingredients:
- Pastry for 2-crust pie
- 36 round butter crackers, broken in large pieces (about 1-3/4 cups crumbs)
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons cream of tarter
- 1-3/4 cups water
- juice and zest from 1 lemon
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preparation:
Mix sugar and cream of tarter in saucepan. Gradually stir in water until completely combined. Bring to boil. Reduce to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Add lemon juice and zest. Allow mixture to cool. Pour syrup over crumbs. Dot with butter. Sprinkle with spices. Put top crust on. Seal edges. Cut vents into top crust. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Cool on wire rack.
