Granny Smith Apple Pie

I just love whipped cream on my pie.

Prep Time: 25 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes

Yield: Makes One - 9-inch pie

Ingredients:

  • pastry for 2 crust pie
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith or other tart apples
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar (more or less according to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon*
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg*
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • milk
  • sugar
  • * 3/4 teaspoon Apple or Pumpkin Pie Spice may be substituted for these spices

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Put bottom crust in pie pan. Mix all the rest of the ingredients, except the butter, in a bowl. Pour the mixture into crust. Dot with butter. Place on top crust. Flute edges of pie crust. Cut vents in top crust. Using a pastry brush, paint the top crust with milk. Sprinkle sugar. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cover outside edge of crust. Finish baking pie for 25 to 30 more minutes.

Great and easy pie, Member BPM893

The only change I made was instead of two tbs of flour I used 1 tbs of flour and 1 tbs of corn starch. As I was cutting the apples I applied a little lemon juice to them. I also went a little heavy on the brown sugar. I have made two of these in a weeks time. Both were enjoyed.
