Ice Cream for All Seasons
by Deb Tomasi and Suzy Gardner
What a wonderful, easy cookbook to follow. Not only are there ice cream recipes for your basic Classic Vanilla, but there are recipes for the flavors of Green Tea, Cannoli Chip, and Nanaimo (a Canadian favorite), as well. They've also included Gelatos, Ices, Sorbets, and Sherbets. My favorite recipes are anything with chocolate, especially the Triple Chocolate Overload (cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and brownie pieces). I also loved playing with both of the authors' "Your Choice" recipes. They offer the basic ingredients and you choose the flavorings. Ice cream is truly for all seasons! Softcover.

Not Afraid of Flavor, Recipes from Magnolia Grill
by Ben and Karen Barker
How do I begin this review? How about "Oh my gosh!" This is truly my kind of cookbook. Not only is it beautiful, with gorgeous pictures, legible typeset, and the expected elegant dessert recipes, but it's a good read, too. I just love cookbooks you can enjoy for the cooking side, as well as the kind you can sit down in a big chair and enjoy reading. The best part is that, in a sense, Ben and Karen talk you through most of the recipes. The section on "The Art of Pie", is worth the purchase of this book alone. It helps get you through the fear of making a pie, most especially, the crust. Some of the mouth watering desserts are: Chocolate Peanut Praline Tart, Brown Sugar Pear Pound cake, Maple View Dairy Buttermilk Cheesecake, and Watermelon Granita. There's also a list of elegant desserts you can just "throw" together. Besides desserts, there are loads (over 100) of savory food recipes, too. (I can't wait to eat in their restaurant next time I'm in Durham, North Carolina.) Hardback

The Olives Dessert Table
by Todd English, Paige Retus, and Sally Sampson
Here is another lovely book created by people who own and operate a restaurant, in this case, several restaurants. Each dessert is a work of art. Although, the recipes are not difficult, there are usually several steps to completing each one. Of course, creating a masterpiece is well worth it. Some of the recipes I can't wait to make are: White Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding with Caramel Semi-Freedo and Boozy Caramel Sauce (I could eat the bread pudding alone, too!), Butterscotch Pudding in a Chocolate Crumb Crust with Fudge-Topped Toffee Cookies and Chocolate Lace Cigarettes (these are nicotine free), and Pound Cake with Seasonal Fruit Compote and Burnt Orange Ice Cream. Besides the recipes there is also a page called "Olive's Laws". These are common sense rules to help you make great desserts. Some of these rules are: Assume that the nuts used are toasted, unless otherwise advised. Always use unsalted butter, and large, room temperature, eggs. Hardback

A Passion for People: The Story of Mary Mahoney and Her Old French House Restaurant
by Edward J. Lepoma
My husband and I were in Biloxi, Mississippi on a business trip. Little did we know that we'd find more than an ocean, golf and gambling in this small Gulf Coast town. We found one of the best restaurants we've ever been to in our combined lives. So, if getting a cookbook is as close to eating the best food ever you can get, you need to get this cookbook. Hardcover

Sweet Potato Queens' Big-Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner
by Jill Conner Browne
A friend just told me that this is the book to get. She said she doesn't normally laugh out loud reading a book, but she did with this cookbook. It sounds like my kind of cooking, too. She said there weren't many recipes that didn't have at least 2 sticks of butter in them. I can't wait to get my copy. Paperback

The True History of Chocolate
by Sophie D. Coe and Michael D. Coe
Beginning with the America's ancient civilizations, and their mythology, to modern day processing and consumption, you'll find it all in this book. Although, written in the slightly more formal academic fashion, the authors' passion for history, and, most importantly, for chocolate is quite evident. You'll enjoy, as I did, learning all about this wondrous food. Paperback.
