It's cherry season and I just can't wait to get home with the bag of bing cherries I bought from the store. They are wonderful just plain or used in some of the recipes below.

My gourmet group's last dinner theme was Eastern European. It was my turn to prepare the dessert and the hostess chose this recipe. It is a wonderful three layer dessert combining chocolate and white cakes with Kirsch (a cherry-flavored liqueur), lots of whipped cream, chocolate shavings and, of course, cherries.
