I've been creaming my butters and my sugars ever since I could safely reach the kitchen counter. Cooking, especially baking, can be a lot of fun with kids. I know I'll always treasure the memories I have being in the kitchen with my mom and dad.

To begin baking and dessert making with kids, I would start simple and then build to more complicated recipes. Brownies are a good treat to begin with. They are mixed, baked and served right out of the pan. Cookies would be the next goodie I would make with our fledgling baker. After a little baking experience under their belt, they can better manage the going in and out of the oven required with baking batches of cookies. After brownies and cookies, they should be ready for making cakes. Naturally, along with cake making goes frosting/icing it. After they master baking all of those goodies, they are ready to try any type of dessert. Remind them that there are no bad mistakes in baking just edible lessons.

Here is the list of basic cooking tips for kids. Post it prominently for your future baker's safety.
