submitted by Carol in the Best Old Fashioned Baking Recipe Contest

Carol says that this recipe was her grandmother's, who almost lived to be 101 years old. Carol misses her every day.

1/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup water
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup yellow corn meal
1 heaping teaspoon baking powder

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease and flour a 11x7x1-1/2 inch pan.  Cream together butter and sugar.  Beat in the egg and water.  Sift into the above mixture the flour and salt.  Add corn meal and baking powder and mix well.  Pour into prepared pan.  Bake 40-45 minutes.
