New Orleans Desserts

In Honor of Mardi Gras

By , About.com Guide

It's Mardi Gras time in New Orleans, which means it's also time for some memories I have of that wonderful city.

Growing-up in Birmingham, Alabama made New Orleans the perfect vacation spot for my family. Even as a nine-year-old, I knew every street in the Quarter, the French Quarter that is. Two of our traditional meals were breakfast at Brennan's and dinner at Antoine's Restaurant. Of course, I had to sneak praline samples at Aunt Sally's, which used to be located on Royale Street, and now it's on Decatur street.

As an adult, I actually got engaged at Commander's Palace in the Garden District. I've gotten to meet Emeril Lagasse at Emeril's. Paul Prudhomme's cuisine at K. Paul's is also outstanding.

As they say in New Orleans -
"Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez!" Let the good times roll!

Bananas Foster, Pralines, Plantation Pralines, Praline Cheesecake, Praline Sauce, Pain Perdu, Recipes "From Emeril's Kitchens"

Lagniappes (a little something extra)
