It's Time to Buy Butter!

Friday November 21, 2008
2008 Creaming Butter Photo by Carroll Pelllegrinelli, licensed to About.comI'm on my way out in a few minutes to go buy butter. "Butter?", you say. Yes butter, because butter (good butter, not a cheap store brand) is $2.50 a pound at my local grocery store. That's more than $1.00 under the normal price. I'm going to buy at least 10 pounds. I'll keep a pound or two in my fridge and the rest goes into the freezer. It is recommended that butter only be frozen for four months. I've kept mine longer with only a slight darkening. My baked goods came out just as good as normal.

Besides butter, it's time to stock your baking pantry, if you haven't already. This is the time of year when the baking ingredients are the freshest. Below are check-lists just for you.
