It Seems Like They'll Deep Fry Anything

Wednesday September 27, 2006
Another fun, and fairly new, carnival treat is a Deep Fried Twinkie. I've also had requests for Deep Fried Candy Bars. (Anyone got a Good Recipe for one?) I haven't seen either deep fried item at my local fairs. How about you?

Oh yes, they are awesome! except for the heart attack factor… My suggestion is to freeze the candy bars first, especially if they have chocolate. Make a thick batter similar to a pancake batter, dip the candy (whatever you can think of, nothing is spared), make sure it is thick and entirely coated, then drop it in a fryer. A shell of fried batter quickly comes off and the candy w/ more batter falls to the bottom (make sure it doesn’t stick, lightly swirl the oil if needed). If anyone really wants a recipe and can’t find one, I would be happy to figure one out, I just have never written it down. Enjoy!

Yes, I have seen just about everything offered in a deep-fried version at the fair. Twinkies, snickers and just about any candy bar. I actually tried deep-fried artichoke hearts and they were delicious. I’m a litte leary of a fried candy-bar, but I guess it must be good since they keep coming back every year!

Our local fair has deep fried everything! Twinkies, Milky Ways, Snickers, Cheesecakes, pickles, etc etc. They are all very good.

Several years ago we went to a 4TH of July celebration and the were serving fried OREOs. They were delicious. I asked how they were made. Take the OREO and dip it into funnel cake batter, deep fry until golden brown, and sprinkle with powdered sugar. They are heavenly.

do not have a recipe, but Macaroni Grill has deep fired snickers for dessert, and Kennywood Park has deepf fried oreos, bananas, snickers, twinkies, ice cream, and a few others- so you can dip and fry anything I guess!!!
