Unbelievable Restaurant Dessert

Monday September 6, 2004
I just love trying new desserts. I was at a restaurant the other night and the waitress kept telling me about this fantastic cobbler they had. She said it was totally different from any other she's ever had. Well, of course, I had to have some. Out came this glass bowl loaded with huge blackberries in a light syrup. On top of the cobbler topping was a scoop of slightly melting vanilla ice cream. Yes, to make the dessert even better it was served perfectly warm. I was quite surprised when I tasted the cobbler topping. It was not like any other cobbler I'd had either, and yet it was very familiar. I quickly realized that the "cobbler" was actually a dumpcake made with fresh fruit. It was outstanding. Here's a basic dumpcake recipe. Why not try your own fresh fruit version?
