Pecan Pie

Pecan Pie Photo by Carroll Pellegrinelli, licensed to About.comWhen I was growing-up we ate more Pecan Pie than Pumpkin or Mincemeat. This is the very best Pecan Pie recipe. There's more nuts and lots of brown sugar, which makes it less sweet than most pecan pies.

Frozen Whipped Topping - Truwhip

2009 Truwhip Photo Courtesy of Peak Foods, LLCIf you prefer whipped topping over real whipped cream, there's a new product you should try. Actually, Truwhip isn't new, but it is to me. What I liked the most about Truwhip is that I didn't get a metallic taste in my mouth like I do with other whipped toppings. Maybe that's because it's 70 percent organic. If you'd like to find out more about Truwhip visit their website at Truwhip.com.

Making a Pie Crust From Scratch

Thursday November 12, 2009

2009 Pie Dough Photo by Carroll Pellegrinelli, licensed to About.comWe've only got a couple of weeks until Thanksgiving a.k.a. Pie Day as I call it. This is the day that many people serve not one but maybe 2 or 3 different pies. This year try to avoid purchasing a ready-made pie crust. Use these Pie Crust Making Step-by-Step Photo Instructions to make your own. Not only is it made with ingredients you have on hand, but you can make your own for a lot less money. Also, you know exactly what you're getting. There are no strange chemicals. The best part, of course, is that a Homemade Pie Crust tastes the best!

What's an Upside-Down Apple Pie?

Tuesday November 10, 2009

2009 Pandowdy Photo by Pam Stephan About.com guide to Breast Cancer, licensed to About.comIf you guessed Apple Pandowdy, you'd be correct. This dessert is baked either in a cast iron skillet or cake pan, and then turned upside down onto a serving dish. There isn't a better dessert for a really wet day like today. (Thanks to Hurricane Ida.) The only problem is that I'm having trouble waiting for my warm and flavorful upside-down apple pie, Apple Pandowdy, to finish baking. Yum!

Quick Bread
Quick bread is so named because it is "quick" to make, as there is no time spent waiting for the dough to rise. Even though Quick Bread is fairly easy to make, there are certain key elements that separate a good loaf from a great loaf. I believe that whether you're new to baking or would like a refresher, you'll find these baking tips and photo instructions helpful.

What to Do With Leftover Halloween Candy

Saturday November 7, 2009
Halloween CandyHopefully, you're not as bad as I am, but I usually end-up throwing the leftover candy away. The really bad part is that it's not until Easter that I do it. As usual, I've put the candy in a safe place, the pantry, and have forgotten all about it. You see, for my daughter, it's not about what candy she gets; it's all about the number of pieces. She eats little of it. What a waste; so I decided to come up with these simple suggestions for the leftover Halloween candy.
